The Remotivation Process Version 1.0, 2003

Author: Carmen Gloria de las Heras, Veronica Llerena, and Gary Kielhofner

Motivation can be affected by life experiences, including physical and mental disability. By facilitating the healing process through environmental support, the Remotivation Process manual provides guidelines for intervention specifically focused on motivation and participation in meaningful activities.

The Remotivation Process is a strategic intervention process for people with impaired volition. Developed from the concept of a volitional continuum, the Remotivation Process consists of 3 stages:

  • Exploration
  • Competency
  • Achievement

Each phase indicates a different level of volition, and is further broken down into more specific stages. These volitional stages guide structured interventions. The Remotivation Process is designed to be used in collaboration with the Volitional Questionnaire (sold separately).

The Remotivation Process manual includes an in-depth discussion of the volitional continuum, strategies for gathering client information according to the level of volition demonstrated, interpretation of Volitional Questionnaire results, and suggested goals and intervention activities. Three case studies illustrate the process.
