| "Several factors influenced the choice to adopt the OSA as an intervention tool for adult mental health clients. Clients can rapidly determine the level of importance they give to significant elements in their lives and identify elements that are more problematic. The graphic format of the OSA facilitates establishing clear and precise goals for treatment with the client." René Bélanger, OTR,

Reflecting the uniqueness of each client's values and needs, the OSA is a tool that facilitates client-centered therapy. The OSA self report and planning forms assist the client in establishing priorities for change and identifying goals for occupational therapy. The wide range of everyday activities, including handling responsibilities, managing finances, and relaxing, provides a client with the opportunity to identify and address their participation in important and meaningful occupations. The OSA is designed to capture clients' perceptions of their own occupational competence on their occupational adaptation. Clients are provided with a list of everyday occupations, and assess their level of ability when participating in the occupation and their value for that occupation. |
